Privacy policy
This policy covers the pre-launch MarginCap website (margincap.dev): the waitlist and the founding-member pre-order. MarginCap itself is still in development; this policy will be updated, and waitlist members emailed, before the product launches.
Who we are
MarginCap is operated by Omar Kamel. Contact: [email protected].
We are the "controller" of the personal data described below (the party responsible for it).
What we collect, why, and on what basis
| Data | When | Why | Legal basis (EU/UK) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Email address | You join the waitlist | To email you about MarginCap's launch | Your consent, which you can withdraw any time |
| Referral tag (e.g. "reddit"), taken from the link you arrived on | You join the waitlist or pre-order | To learn which channels bring interested people | Legitimate interest |
| Name, email, billing country and address, payment status | You pre-order (entered on Stripe's checkout) | To take payment, issue refunds and keep tax records | Contract; legal obligation |
| IP address and browser details in server logs | Any visit | To deliver the site and protect it from abuse | Legitimate interest |
We never send text messages (SMS) or make marketing calls. If Stripe's checkout asks for a phone number, we don't use it to contact you.
We don't collect sensitive data (health, biometrics, government IDs, precise location). Card numbers go directly to Stripe; we never see or store them. We don't use AI models on your data.
Cookies and similar technologies (cookie policy)
- margincap.dev sets no cookies. No advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, and no tracking pixels.
- If you join the waitlist, your browser stores one item in local storage,
mc_waitlist: a one-way SHA-256 hash of your email, so the form can tell you you're already signed up. It contains no readable email, never leaves your device, and you can clear it in your browser settings at any time. It is strictly necessary for that feature, so it doesn't require consent. - If you click a pre-order button, you go to Stripe's checkout page, which sets its own cookies for fraud prevention under Stripe's privacy policy.
- Analytics: we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. A small script from Cloudflare (
static.cloudflareinsights.com) reports which page you viewed, the site that sent you, your browser type, your country and page-load speed. It sets no cookies, uses no local storage or fingerprinting, and doesn't track you across sites or build a profile of you, so it doesn't require consent. Blocking it doesn't affect the site. - Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control: we don't track you across sites, so there is nothing for these signals to switch off.
Who processes your data for us
| Service | What for | Data it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Website hosting and visit counts (Web Analytics) | IP address, browser details (request logs); page, referrer, browser type and country (analytics) |
| Formspree | Storing waitlist signups | Email, referral tag, IP address |
| Stripe | Pre-order payments | Everything you enter on checkout |
We don't sell or share your personal information with advertisers or data brokers, and we don't use it for targeted advertising.
International transfers
These providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where EU/UK data leaves those regions, it is protected by the providers' Standard Contractual Clauses and/or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep it
- Waitlist emails: until 12 months after launch, or until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
- Payment records: as long as tax law requires (typically 6–7 years).
- Server logs: as kept by Cloudflare under its policy.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct, delete or export your data, to stop using it, or object to how we use it, and withdraw consent at any time. Email [email protected] from the address you signed up with; we reply within 30 days. Deleting your data also cancels and refunds any pre-order. Every email we send includes an unsubscribe option.
If you're unhappy with our answer you can complain to your data protection authority: in the EU your national authority, in the UK the ICO, in Canada the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Children
MarginCap is a business tool and isn't directed at children under 16. We don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we'll update the effective date and email waitlist members before the change applies.
